In Calgary, Alberta.
This was a cold day to go birding... -20 Celsius / -4 Fahrenheit with the wind chill. And icy and snowy... constant steady snow the whole hike. 3 of us spent 3 hr, 47 min... and hiked 7.2 kilometers / 4.47 miles. 11 floors of elevation, lots of up and down and quite exhausting in the thick snow in places. We only had 13 species, but the species we did have, most were really good to add to my 2025 bird list the first day! I was happy to see the white-winged crossbills, which were my last bird of 2024 on the first day of the year.
Here are a few of my favorite images from the day. The rest can be seen on Flickr here.
